Hi William, I don’t think there is one set way to approach everybody. Each person is different and at a different stage in their life, with a different worldview. Apologetics is both a science and an art, and part of the art is in discerning when and how to share the Gospel with someone (in gentleness and respect according to 1 Peter 3:15). 🙂

I’m 86 and have a hard time memorizing. I’m not afraid to mention Jesusor to speak Christianity but when I refer to scripture I always say I’m paraphrasing. If the conversation goes on I use literature or the gospel of John. I like to go to chat. 17 and read Christ’s words and ask about his words saying “not just these but those who will follow. I like to ask who do they think Jesus is referring to. If the conversation continues I do the best that I can’t to refer to it. If the conversation does not continue I opt for them the copy of John’s Gospel and if I know them I told him I’m available to discuss it further when I can bring my study Bible with me
