Sunday Quote: Thomas Nagel on Atheism

“I want atheism to be true and am made uneasy by the fact that some of the most intelligent and well-informed people I know are religious believers. It isn’t just that I don’t believe in God and, naturally, hope that I’m right in my belief. It’s that I hope there is no God! I don’t want there to be a God; I don’t want the universe to be like that.”

    Brian,

Great quote; I greatly appreciate Nagal's transparency here.

Interesting, Nagal also believes ID (Intelligent Design) should be viewed as scientific. If you, or your readers, are interested in reading more about his views, see here:

    Thanks again and God Bless

    I don't agree with quote – as usual 🙂

And I wonder why he hopes there is no God? He's welcome to his view though

So keep the cherry picking coming.

What happened to Carl Sagan? 🙂

    Lee,

How are you doing? Hope all is well with you and yours.

Curious; what exactly don't you agree with in regards to the quote?

    Hi Chad,

Have to be brief…. to answer

The mixing up of desire and truth.

Aldous Huxley made a similar statement when he admitted, "We objected to morality because it interfered with our sexual freedom."
