Debate: Is the Mind Material? (Wulf V. Ra)

The immaterialist in this debate is a member of the Hare Krishna faith, while the materialist is Aron Ra, an iconoclastic atheist. Nevertheless, this scientific kerfuffle has a lot to offer Christian apologetic approaches.

Theology Unleashed: Unfortunately Aron Ra had to leave a little early. Josh and I continued to discuss and respond to the comments. I have published this as a separate video. Aron Ra and Josh Wulf (aka Sitapati Das) Debate “is the mind is material?”

The word mind in western philosophy has a broad reach and includes consciousness and its contents. The experience of qualia (subjective experiences such as the blueness of blue, the taste of a strawberry etc.) are one of the toughest aspects of mind to explain on physicalism. Other concepts which come under the umbrella of mind are intentionality, thoughts and feelings.

Some of you will be familiar with the way the word mind is used as a translation of the sanskrit word Manasa. This is a technical use of the word mind which differs from the way it’s used in western philosophy. We are not using that definition of the word here but rather the western philosophical one.

Aron Ra is a prominent atheist activist, and critic of theism and promoter of the theory of evolution. He produces YouTube videos on the topics of skepticism, free thought, and atheism. He is the author of “Foundational Falsehoods of Creationism”. His YouTube channel is linked here https://youtu.be/a9e8QwCrmpM

Josh Wulf works in coding by day. He is initiated into Caitanya Vaishnavism (aka Hare Krishna) and is well versed in the theology of this tradition.
