Terminology Tuesday: Richard Swinburne
One of the preeminent philosophers of religion in the analytic philosophy tradition. Swinburne, who holds a chair at Oxford University, made his reputation with a trilogy in which he first defended the coherence of theism, then argued the probability of God’s existence and finally argued for the reasonableness of Christian belief. He has since treated a number of topics of special relevance to Christianity, including the Trinity, the atonement and revelation. Swinburne’s work is notable for its rigor and reliance on inductive probability.
